The new Airbrush Basic Set contains everything you need to learn the airbrush technique. A mini-compressor and a quality metal spray gun ensure that the model-builder has continuous compressed air. The Airbrush gun uses a single-action system, i.e. with the compressor switched on the air flows continuously through the nozzle. The quantity of paint is controlled by pulling back the trigger. That is practical for the novice who - with this system - only has to bother about controlling the quantity of paint, not the air flow. With the two shades of Aqua Color provided the model-builder can practise mixing colours and using the Airbrush. Q&A Airbrushes
What paint should I use? Revell produce their own range of specially thinned enamel paints for use in airbrushes, but these are hard to find. However, having spoken at length with their sales force on the issue, the general consensus is that you should simply use standard Revell enamel or acrylic paint or Tamiya acrylic paint - each thinned. Other brands of modelling paint are also suitable provided they are sufficiently thinned. Acrylic paint is good because you can thin it with plain water or thinners but you must spray clean water or thinners through your gun immediately when you finish as it will dry in around 10 minutes and gum up the works otherwise.
What cleaning is involved? It is essential that you clean the pots and gun by (at absolute minimum) spraying clean thinners (or water for acrylic paints) through the gun after use until the gun runs clear. Once the paint has set in the gun it will be effectively ruined.
How does the compressor work? It's a mains powered unit, except for 39200 & 29667 which use a large canister of compressed air.If I wreck the gun, can I get another nozzle? Yes, nozzles can be ordered individually on a special order basis, as can bottles and any other parts mentioned in the manuals.
Can you get me a heavier duty Compressor? Yes, Revell do offer a higher output compressor which we can supply to order. The price varies depending on items you order with it - if you email our mail order department using the "Contact Us" button we can calculate and mail back the current price - please, do not phone and expect an instant reply as you won't get one - we would need to contact Revell to confirm the latest price first.
Is there are guarantee? The compressor is guaranteed by Revell for one year. Their UK agent is based in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire. The spray gun is guaranteed "good out of the box" - which means it will be in perfect condition when you get it but they can't guarantee that you won't wreck it since if you do not clean the gun immediately after use it will obviously clog! Hoses are not guaranteed due to the ease with which they can be damaged by poor handling.
Other uses other than modelling? You could use these guns to touch in damage on full sized cars and vans far more effectively than using an aerosol - it's just a case of mixing paint to match. Similar guns are used in the beauty industry for nail art and for applying simulated tan products (so - spray your models, then respray yourself!).
Why are these so cheap? We bulk buy kits from Revell for our shop and were able to get a great deal on these compressor/brush sets as a result.
